Try to keep it to one or two neighborhoods in a day. Who wants to spend their day in the subway?
What are your interests? Google your main interest and NYC and see what comes up.
You will be able to find good food next to pretty much any place of interest. Probably the most expensive place to eat will be Times Square, and the busiest too. You don't have to worry so much about health in smaller eateries these days because the restaurants all post their health dept grades in the window. Everything open these days has a grade a or b or folds up, because who will go to grade c?
