Going to NYC to visit a friend in June and wondering what cheap (and fun) things there are to do out there. Not looking for the typical tourist traps either. I want to get off the beaten path and see the true New York!Cheap things to do in NYC?
People watching in NYC is great (spending time at a cafe/terrasse)
Visit Central Park, it is gorgeous
Museums are not expensive, and there are a lot of art galleries (especially in Soho)Cheap things to do in NYC?
Lower Manhattan: World Trade Center site, Fraunces Tavern, Chinatown (lunch at Wo Hop on Mott Street); South Street Seaport
Midtown: United Nations (you can wander for free, sit in on meetings, and the gift shop is great for souvenirs), theater district; Rockefeller Center; FAO Schwartz (you can play with their toys and stuff without purchasing, and they have an ice cream parlor); Central Park and zoo
Take the Staten Island ferry (free) to see the harbor, then take a bus on Staten Island to Richmondtown Restoration (restored colonial village--free admission)
Brooklyn: Coney Island; AquariumCheap things to do in NYC?
On the NW corner of Broadway and W. 28th st. there is a street cart. Ask him for a sandwich with everything. $4.
Come to Brooklyn and smoke some blunts and play handball in the park with the locals. I can arrange such a tour. I can introduce you as my brother(s)Cheap things to do in NYC?
CENTRAL PARK
Go shopping at Century 21, which is across the street from Ground Zero. Go to the pretheater dinner at the Four Seasons Restaurant, if you are seated by 6 PM, the whole meal from appetizer to dessert is $65. Jacket and tie required. There is a great Sunday brunch at the Four Seasons Hotel, not the same as the restaurant I just mentioned. Go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which is wonderful and has a delightful place for lunch. Also the Museum of Natural History and the Bronx Zoo. The zoo on Wednesdays takes donations, not a regular rate. Take a ride on the Staten Island Ferry or the Circle Line Cruise around Manhattan.
