Thanks! What are some good things to do in NYC for free?
One thing that no one else has said is to take the Staten Island Ferry for a ride from South Ferry by Battery park in Manhattan to Staten Island. The ride is absolutely free and it is about a 25 minute ride to Staten island. You then get off the boat and get back on the next one that is leaving and you get a beautiful precious view of New York Harbor. On the way to Staten island on one side of the ferry you will come close to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. The view is excellent since it is for free. You will be able to see the Brooklyn skyline and gvoernors island when you go on the ride and you will get a distant view of the Verrazano's Narrows Bridge.
You can also take a subway ride to Coney Island and walk around and see the famous boardwalk and the old Steeple Chase park( what is left of it and you can also see the famous Cyclone Rollercoaster that has been in movies about Coney Island. Also you can go onto the beach for free. There is an extensive boardwalk to walk on.
You can also take the number 2 subway train up to E180th street stop in the Bronx and go to the Bronx Zoo. Admission is free on Tues, Wed, and Thurs.
You can take the subway (The "F" Train form any stop along 6th ave in manhattan and take it to Roosevelt Island Stop (do not get it confused with the Roosevelt Ave-Jackson Heights stop in Queens)
You get off at Roosevelt Island stop and you come out and you can walk through a nice small town on the island and in front of the subway entrance you can go to the waters edge and get a breathtaking view of the whole East Side of Manhattan from way down by the Williamsburgh and manhattan Bridges to a view of the United Nations and the Queensboro bridge and all the way up to the North end of Manhattan near the Triboro Bridge. The view is spectacular.
There is also a bus on the island that will take you around for $0.25 cents yes only one quarter (sorry it's not for free!) but a quarter ain't a bad price. I have also heard that you can take that tram ride from Roosevelt Island back to manhattan by East 60th street for a two dollar metro ride with the metro card the same one you use for the subway. I am not totally sure about that but you can ask at the tram stand which is right near the subway entrance that you came out of on your way to Roosevelt Island
You can go up on the M4 bus which starts near 7th ave on W32nd strert all the way up to the end of the Line at the Cloisters in Fort Tyron Park on W190th street. this is a nice park to go to for free and you get a nice view of the Hudson river in the upper part of Manhattan. Take the bus on s asunday morning when there is not too much traffic out on the streets and you will get a nice view of a large part of the route thorugh Manhattan all the way up to near the top of Manhattan. What are some good things to do in NYC for free?
Go to central park. Go to governor's island. Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. Walk around the beautiful West Village. It's a bit of a slog, but the cloisters is lovely. South street seaport is free to visit though there are slight charges for some of the exhibits. What are some good things to do in NYC for free?
Window shop. I went for the first time last Christmas, and I had the best time walking the length of 5th ave browsing through Tiffany, Armani, Louis Vuitton, Burberry, etc. For some reason I was also awe struck watching all the people play on huge roll out piano in FAO Schwartz.
There is also a bus company that has a route with about 10-15 stops around lower Manhattan that's completely free so it's easier for you to get around. What are some good things to do in NYC for free?
are you kidding just walk around go to radio city , stand in front of the window at the morning show at NBC show people can see you on T.V.there is so much to do you will think you missed something when you leave
The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the American Musuem of Natural History are free. The entrance prices are donations, so if say you don't want to pay they cannot keep you out. You may get an eye roll but who cares. But you have to pay for the Rose Observatory (space and planets) at the Natural History Musuem.
Oh, they are closed on Monday.
There are free concerts throughout NYC in the Summer. The link below gives information.
You can always walk around Central Park. Otherwise it costs money to breath in NYC.
I don't know if there is still the pass (it was $35 in 2001) that provided tickets to about 10 different venues in NYC. I bought it at the Natural History Musuem.
Have fun. I miss home.
