I am taking my girlfriend and two other friends to go see Phantom of the Opera in February. I am wondering what would be some good things to do at nights. Our show is at 2, and then we have all night and the following day to have activities to do.

Well, it would depend a lot on the weather, but here's one really great idea. You will probably get out of the theater at around 4-4:30, so if the weather is not pouring rain or bitterly cold, one of the most beautiful (and by the way FREE) things you can do in New York City is walk across the Brooklyn Bridge at dawn or dusk. The bridge has a separate level that is a kind of boardwalk. It is about a 20 minute walk from one side to the other, and lots of places to stop and take photos with beautiful, even sometimes breathtaking, backdrops, depending on the light and the weather.
On the Brooklyn side of the bridge, you could then go to Grimaldi's (which you may google and find directions to). It is rated by Zagat as the very best pizza in New York, and of course Brooklyn pizza is famous. Grimaldi's, the original Grimaldi's, is located just under the bridge on the Brooklyn side, and after the theater and the walk across the bridge, you'll be hungry.
So here's what you do. When you get out of the Majestic (where the Phantom is), get into the subway (which should be very close by), and get on the crosstown train, the 7, the Brooklyn-bound 7. If the 7 should not be running, which it sometimes does not do on weekends, walk to 42nd St. and catch the east-bound crosstown bus. Whether you take the 7 or the bus, get off at Grand Central Station, get into the subway beneath Grand Central and take the Brooklyn-bound Lexington Avenue (green line) 6 train, and get off at the stop called, ahem, Brooklyn Bridge. Ask anyone. They will point out the walkway that leads up onto the bridge.
When you've stuffed yourself with pizza, you may have to walk back across the bridge, but ask in Grimaldi's, as they can surely point you to the nearest subway if you want to ride. Once back in Manhattan, if it is really dark out, you just might want to go the Rockefeller Center or the Empire State Building, pay the fee, and go to the Top of the Rock or the observation deck at the Empire State Building for a breathtaking view of the city, no matter what the weather.
If you have any questions whatsoever about anything related to your stay in NYC, like how much Top of the Rock is or what's the schedule or a list of night clubs or piano bars or whatever, you can go to www.nycgo.com, which is the NYC government's tourism bureau. They are wonderful, and if you can't find what you need to know at their website, call. They'll help you.
