Free things to do in nyc?

i've been living in manhattan for a month and i have another month before i leave. i got here with a decent amount of money so, naturally, i went a little crazy in the beginning and now i'm broke :( does have any suggestions as to free (or very cheap) activities or things to do and/or see before i leave?

(i love music, art, "different" things, and photo-ops!)

thank you thank youFree things to do in nyc?
Walk.....Free things to do in nyc?
You can also go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art on 5th Avenue. Like Richard said, the price is only a "suggested" price--toss them a quarter, if you're nice, and keep it moving. There's so much to see in there that you cannot see it all in one shot.

Also, go to Battery Park at the end of Manhattan. It would be a great photo-op as the Statue of Liberty is within close view.

Furthermore, every summer, there is a River to River Festival in lower Manhattan. It features free live music and things of that nature. Check it out at http://www.rivertorivernyc.com/. And, there's Broadway in Bryant Park, which is a free lunchtime event that consists of live performances of songs from various Broadway musicals.
here are some suggestions and tips from our personal experience:

there's a book called Lonely Planet (NYC)

it is a really really helpful book for tourists like us because it includes walking tours, etc, and places to eat.

if you have more time, try walking the stretch of Brooklyn Bridge.

this serves as an exercise too.. hihihi

also, do visit Saint Patricks's Cathedral at 5th avenue.

To relax, try having a picnic at Central Park.

we chose to eat at the top of one huge rock there to have e good view of the whole central park :)

then, we went to MET (entrance is by donation only, you don't have to give 20 USD)Free things to do in nyc?
you can go to the natural history museum and only pay 5 cents for admission. you can pay as much as you want - the amount on the sign is only a suggested donation.
WELL...YOU CAN ALWAYS WALK EVERYWHERE...TO TIMES SQUARE, CENTRAL PARK, CHINA TOWN....LITTLE ITALY.... WALK ACROSS THE BKLY. BRIDGE....5TH AVE...( WINDOW SHOP )Free things to do in nyc?

1. Ride the Staten Island Ferry

Yep, it's free. Great views of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and the lower Manhattan skyline. It's a 25 minute ride each way, and it leaves from Whitehall Street Terminal in lower Manhattan. To check the schedule visit http://www.siferry.com.

2. Go see the David Letterman Show

Tickets are free, and you can apply for them online now or in person when you're there. Tapings are Monday through Thursday afternoons, limit 2 tickets per request, and you must be 18 to attend. http://www.cbs.com/latenight/lateshow/sh鈥?/a>

3. Take a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge

The separate walkway on the bridge is just over a mile long, and has a view of the Manhattan skyline that is beyond compare - this is one of those very special NY experiences. While the walk takes around 1/2 hour, allow yourself more time to stop and enjoy the views and read the various plaques with info about the bridge. Another idea would be to walk across the bridge one nice evening and have dinner at the famous Brooklyn Grimaldi's Pizzaria (www.grimaldis.com) and dessert across the street at Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory. The Manhattan entrance to the bridge is across from City Hall at Park Row (Brooklyn Bridge/City Hall subway stop). Oh, and while on the bridge be sure to stay out of the bike lane!

4. Picnic %26amp; concert in Central Park

Pack an early evening picnic on a nice night and go see one of the various free concerts. You can find the schedule at http://www.summerstage.org.

Hope this helps!
