Polyesters! it's a little place that goes back into the 70s....it;s cute.
NYC is full of museums and restaurants.
If you're old enough, there are tons of night clubs and bars.
Broadway shows.
The Intrepid aircraft carrier, a decommissioned aircraft carrier that's now a museum of flight.
Chelsea Piers has lots of sports-oriented activities, like several different types of skating.
Rockefeller Center has the big Christmas tree and ice skating, if you're going around Christmas time.
Then of course there's lots of shopping.
Lincoln Center and other theaters, for classical music, if you're into that.
Times Square is a sight everyone has to see on a visit to NYC, and has lots of stuff to do, like ESPN Zone, which is a sports bar/arcade.
Lots of talk shows are filmed in NYC, like Letterman and Conan O'Brien, you could try getting tickets to a taping of one of those, though it may be difficult unless you have a connection or you make the request very well in advance.
That's just off the top of my head :)Things to do in NYC?

sightseeing bus tours and attractions http://www.citysightsny.com/Things to do in NYC?
Don't plan anything, so to midtown and just walk, you will find more interesting things in a few blocks than you could plan or find in any guide book, New York is a walking city, wear good shoes and do the Empire State Building and Statue of Liberty, but don't plan around them, the Empire State Building is a quick visit only about an hour is needed, you go to the top and look around and come down, then head across the street to Macy's or just walk around that area, go see a show if you have spare time, buy your tickets at the Tickets center in time square you can get cheap tickets to most shows, but you don't necessarily get the most popular shows ( although I have been very luck) bottom line is don't over plan a trip to New York, the city is electric and constantly moving, move with it not against it. Have a great time.
How about trying an itinerary planning service called The Well Planned Traveler http://www.thewellplannedtraveler.com
