What are the best things to see and do in NYC?

That aren't the typical tourist attractions. I will be there for a week in early July. Also what happens in NYC for Fourth of July? What are the best things to see and do in NYC?
I've been to NYC over the 4th of July twice and loved it. The locals must leave 'cause it was not as crowded as I expected. When we left the city around the 7th, the people came swarming back and it was the typical New York that you see on TV.

We loved going to see Blue Man Group. The tickets are cheaper in NYC than other places. There is a restaurant there that has a maze and ninjas that you must get past before you get to eat. I can't remember the name, but I saw it on the travel channel.

We watched the fireworks at Liberty Park (I think that was the name), but found the restaurants on the pier a much better vantage point. (I've traveled several other places since then so can't remember names.)

Enjoy your trip. Be sure to search the internet for other suggestions. Tripadvisor can also help you with suggestions. What are the best things to see and do in NYC?
A few places have fireworks and I believe there is a parade on the 4th. As for non touristy attractions in NYC, there aren't that many. If you go during the day there will be less people at places because they'll be at work. What are the best things to see and do in NYC?
I don't know if you think of this as a "typical" attraction but NBC studios is pretty awesome as well as walking across the Brooklyn Bridge. What are the best things to see and do in NYC?
