I'll be there saturday night-monday morning. This is my first time (weird I know). I know I want to see strawberry fields, ground zero, statue of liberty and central park.
What else? Also, how hard is it to learn the subway system? What things should I do in NYC this weekend?
I don't know how energetic you are, but:
Early in the morning, take the subway to Battery Park. This is where the ferries land -- so you can go to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. After that, you can walk north to see Wall Street (it is immediately north from the park, and you can walk further north to "ground zero". You can keep walking north to Central Park from there, if you like.
The subway is easy to navigate. But I do like walking a city because you really see it a ground level and get a feel for it. You can detour if you spot something of interest. And there are a lot of eateries and shops you might run into. What things should I do in NYC this weekend?
Well one day you could do Central Park %26amp; Strawberry Fields.
As they are next to each other then at night maybe do the Rockefeller center observation deck- Rockefeller is better than the Empire state!
Then the next day you could go to Ground Zero %26amp; get a boat around the Statue Of Liberty [Do around the statue as if you get a direct boat there your stuck there for 45 mins with just the state and if you do an around boat trip you see the Manhatten skyline and go up close to the statue!] Ground Zero %26amp; the statue are within walking distance!
You can also do shopping as there are many shops near Ground Zero and Pier 17 is lovely!
The subway is the cheapest form of transport and easy!

Its not hard to learn the subway system.
You just need to pay attention to the stairs leading below (you won't see a sign at times); and which direction to take the train.

First off this person above me is crazy! Its like 100 blocks from Battery Park to Central Park or in other words a 7 hour walk, also dont go on the Ellis island ferries there tourist traps, they herd you like cattle onto these boats its a horrible expirience!! plus statue of liberty was closed down after 9/11 so its pointless anyways. What I suggest you do is get on the R or W train downtown and go exploring, stop at Cristopher St, Prince St, Spring St and aything else lower, youll hit SoHo, the Village, China town, Little Italy, and the Finnancial district, there all great, recomend dinner in little Italy its the best in the 212!!! If your really in the mood to experiment head over to LES its dangerous in parts but great in parts, but if your not familiar with the city i dont suggest it. Have fun, got any questions email me, oh and head over to Brooklyn or Queens(were im from) if you have extra time, its alot diff but got great parts.
Peace
