Christmas-y things to do in NYC in one day?

My friends and I are taking the train to NYC in 2 weeks. I'm the "trip coodinator" and I have to find stuff for us to do. I have a few questinons regarding NYC at christmastime.

*Can we walk from grand central to rockefeller center?

*What about times square?

*Other than visiting these two areas where else can we go? We really don't want to have to take a cab b.c there are 5 of us going and it would be expensive. So only walking distance. It doesn't all have to do with christmas but just fun things for 18 year olds to do in the big city!!Christmas-y things to do in NYC in one day?
If you get a AAA map of Manhattan many of the places you are hoping to go are marked. That way you can literally map out where you want to go. If you can, I would go to H%26amp;M for cheaper fashionable clothes (trendy) and the Sephora shop for all kinds of make-up and fragrances. Whatever you do, I'm sure you'll have a great time with your friends. I went there with my best friend a while ago, and she and I both think it is time to go back.Christmas-y things to do in NYC in one day?
Oh My! If i was going to NYC any time during the holiday season, well i don't what i would do only because every corner you turn there always is something to do! The excitment and culture of the city.. so amazing!! You could do anything and it wouldn't matter because you are in NYC! LUCKY!!! :)

Sorry, didn't really help you with your questions :(
see tree at rockefeller center and go ice skating. go in Tiffany's--be sure to check out Christmas decs out front as well as those in Macy's and other store windows (Bloomies, Saks, etc.) Go to Stage Deli for lunch for a huge sandwich and be sure to get the cheesecake for dessert. Do a little shopping but be prepared for insane masses of people. Also BE SURE to hit the Radio City Christmas SPectacular at night- amazing. Have so much fun!!Christmas-y things to do in NYC in one day?
Hey, are you looking to do touristy things? As for walking, you can walk anywhere you want, but I'd definitely recommend using the subway as your main transportation; the $7 fun day pass is a good thing to get. The map is easy to read and there's a low chance of you getting lost or onto the wrong train. It's going to be cold, so walking won't be fun unless you're hardy types. Check out the MTA site to look at a map of the subway systems. Also free transfers onto buses.

Take it from a local; go downtown. There are plenty of cool little shops, especially in St. Mark's Place (touristy but still nice). Hit up Soho for more designer stores and the East Village/Lower East Side for more unique, typical NY hipster clothing = thrift stores galore. West Village has some nice restaurants too and hole in the wall shops. You can also see the water and hang out at Chelsea Piers.

If you want to do more Christmasy things, go see a play or ice skate at Rockefeller. Hit up some museums like MOMA, the Met, Museum of Natural History/Science, DIA, Museum of Sex if you're all 18...there are a ton that are all very interesting - just check out their websites for upcoming exhibits.

So it all depends on what you really want to do. The city's got a lot to offer. Going to a museum would be a great choice and then finding a place to eat is easy enough. Check out Union Square/Astor Place for some more shopping and culture and relax at Washington Square Park where NYU kids are. Hope that helped!
GO to CENTRAL Park!!!!!!!!! Go ice skating there!!Christmas-y things to do in NYC in one day?
Great site: www.hopstop.com it can tell you directions and timing for either subway, bus, or walking!
Here are some helpful sites to find directions, ideas, activities, and much more. Im not sure about the walking. I recommend a subway pass. It isnt as scary as it sounds, I promise. Go down from the station and get an all day metro card, it should be around $7 and it has unlimited train rides for 24 hours. the www.hopstop.com site will give you door-to-door directions from different sites. I have used it myself and it works wonders.

There is so much to do, see the macy's windows, ride the ferris wheel in toys r us, go to tiffany's and be audrey hepburn, get cheap tickets from broadways box office, go to a museum like the met or natural history, or go to chinatown or little italy for some good cheap shopping. Theres also madam tussaudds wax museum which is amazing and has wax figures of celebrities. For lunch I'd recommend planet hollywood if your movie people, or hard rock cafe if your music fans. OR! Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. is really good and is based off the movie Forest Gump. Really fun. But look at those sites and pick out stuff your group would be interested in.

Have fun and be safe. I would really go with the subway too. Best way to get around.
