What are some cool things to do in NYC?

I'm visiting NYC and while I will visit the museums and see some shows, I was wondering if there were any other events or something else non-touristy that someone could suggest. Also how's the weather? What are some cool things to do in NYC?
Where to start...I guess you're looking for day-time activities? Staten Island ferry (it's free of charge) gets you a great view of the Statue of Liberty and the NY skyline, without having to go on a tourist trip per-se. You don't get to see the statue though - so take that into consideration if that's high on your list? There are plenty of walks that you can do - upper east side, The Village, Soho, Chinatown. Just wander around the area, have lunch, shop a little. Also, if you like shopping you could head to Canal St (knock-off handbags/belts/watches etc) stall after stall. Weather in April could be nice, but could be rainy too...who knows nowadays!? Just watch out the week before to get an idea of what to take. For a bit of light-hearted fun you could head to the FAO Schwartz toy-store - even as an adult I like it there! Hope that helps a little....if not be more specific whether looking for day/night.What are some cool things to do in NYC?
Listed below are some excellent restaurants you should definitely try out. Also listed are their websites:

While in New York, I STRONGLY suggest you go to see a fun show called Fuerzabruta in downtown New York. It is very fun! It's almost like a club, but there's no age limit! In the main lobby, there is a bar for refreshments, and there are souvenirs of the show, like little key chains and t-shirts. Here is the official website %26gt;%26gt;%26gt; http://fuerzabrutanyc.com/

Also, I am giving you a link to a website, where you can find the best restaurants, nightclubs, hotels and attractions:

There are many free museums and things to do in NYC. Here's a bunch.... http://www.nyctouristcenter.com/free_thi鈥?/a>What are some things to do in NYC for cheap?
You and you friend can take a ride on the Staten Island Ferry and take the of picture of the Statue of Liberty as the boat crosses the Harbor. The ferry is free.

The Brooklyn Bridge will be another option. Its free and the view from the midspan is faboulus.

I would also recommend walking over the Brooklyn Promodae, which located just off the Brooklyn Bridge, and enjoy a view of the New York City Skyline.

I hope this information is very helpful.

I always found this event fun: Gay Pride 2008

"Pridefest" and "The March" at 5th Ave. %26amp; 52nd St. to Christopher %26amp; Greenwich St. on Sunday, June 29th, 2008, Noon - End.

I've always had a good time and the people I've meet were/are awsome. This year I'm taking my 1 year old to see to see The March. I love to expose her to every cultural/civic event. You dont have to be LGBT to go, just be you! :)
here are some suggestions and tips from our personal experience:

there's a book called Lonely Planet (NYC)

it is a really really helpful book because it includes walking tours, etc, and places to eat.

try walking the stretch of Brooklyn Bridge.

this serves as an exercise too.. hihihi

also, do visit Saint Patricks's Cathedral at 5th avenue.

don't miss to go inside.

it's wonderful!!!

To relax, try having a picnic at Central Park.

http://jotan23.blogspot.com/2008/03/labo鈥?/a>

we chose to eat at the top of one huge rock there to have e good view of the whole central park :)

then, we went to MET (entrance is by donation only, you don't have to give 20 USD)

if you're a techie like my friends, you may want to visit the MAC store. it is now a tourist spot because of its unique architecture :pWhat are some free things to do in NYC next weekend?

Take a train far downtown and explore. The great thing about where I live is that there's always somewhere new and small to find.

Poke around downtown. There's always something cool.

People are saying shopping or Broadway...yeah, there's nothing wrong with that. But you know, a lot of stuff used to have more New York character than it does now. Times Square is mainly big chain stores that are in malls everywhere. If you really want to find something unique, you need to explore on your own. Find your own New York.
I spent a day in China Town I took a cab there not far from Times Square I enjoyed the unique shopping places as well as the overall enviroment and resturants. There's plenty of things to do that are non-touristy such as hitting a comedy club. There are plenty around Times Square and there are people out there at night promoting them. If you walk around Times Square long enough you'll bump into one. There's also Times Square itself which has different things from people breakdancing to artists and whatever else anyone may be doing there to draw a crowd. There's also the Concert In The Park program which is live artists and bands performing in various public parks around the city (well, Bryant Park and Central Park in Manhattan and Prospect Park in Brooklyn to be specific). Of course there's always the bar/lounge/club scene. The East Village is a good place to start if you're into that. What are some fun non-touristy things to do in NYC?

Fun things to do in NYC and Long Island?

Hi guys! I'm a college student from LI and I'm home for break. My family is always at work or school or dance, and none of my friends are home yet so I've been pretty bored hanging out at home all the time. What are some fun, cheap things to do either on the island or in the city? I've done most of the touristy stuff, and I've been to all the major museums, so I'd like something more off the beaten trail. Thanks!Fun things to do in NYC and Long Island?
Get a decent kickscooter and head for the slopes.

Start at the Brooklyn Heights Promenade and ride your way down Columbia Heights. Then head for the Manhattan Bridge and ride the final half of the bridge into Manhattan. Now you can make your way to the Williamsburg Bridge and ride back to Brooklyn. Next you head for the Queensboro Bridge and ride the final half of that bridge back to the city.

Finally, if you're feeling up to it and have health insurance, you can go to 187th St by Wadsworth Ave and ride that insanely steep stretch of road downhill. If you survive, what a rush. Otherwise, at least it was fun to ride the scooter elsewhere. My only advice: keep your weight on the brake while going downhill and always, always watch out for cracks in the pavement going downhill.

If there's too much traffic on 187th St when you get there (actually, there will be), try again with a sled instead of a scooter next time there's a severe snowstorm in the city. Arrive before the plows do.Fun things to do in NYC and Long Island?

Eat the different Street foods, and go to the Ripley's museum
Long Island is just an urbanised strip of land extending from NYC. It is built with post war housing plus the hideous architecture and ugly roads. Where it could of been used for conservation like in Canada and Britain (much more environmentally aware countries) it is just an ugly mess of more concrete (as if NY is not concrete enough). I guess its the American way of spreading outwards and using a lot of resources and space without giving a damn about the environment

There's like a billion buildings, but whenever I visit NYC, I always go shopping, or get tons of souvenirs, and go to Starbucks. But definitely go shopping.

=DWhat should I do in NYC?
For your shopping pleasure in referring to the "Abercrombie building," do you mean the Abercrombie %26amp; Fitch store because their are 2 location. The flagship store on 5th Avenue and 56th Street and there second store is located at 199 Water Street at Fulton Street in lower manhattan, my best bet go the the flagship store its bigger.

Saks 5th Avenue, located at 48th Street and 5th Avenue right across from the Rock Center (home to NBC Television).

Broadway show, the theaters are opened and if you want to go cheap on tickets check out TKTS in Times Square.

There are many attractions in the big apple, from the statue of liberty to museums to the big attractions that everyone knows. There too many to list, so check the website below. What should I do in NYC?

Any suggestions for things to do in NYC at night?

I am going on a weekend trip with some friends to NYC. During the day, we know we'll be doing plenty of shopping and stopping at random touristy places, like Central Park. However, we don't know what to do at night! We are all 20 years old, except for one lucky one who is 21. We heard the 19+ nightclubs aren't that good, we probably won't have enough time/money to see a Broadway show, and my friend told me the comedy clubs aren't too great.

What is there to do???Any suggestions for things to do in NYC at night?
oh the comedy shows are fun. go to times square at night. lots of stores and attractions.Any suggestions for things to do in NYC at night?
Hi, I suggest you go shopping and doing other things at day time, spare Times Square for night.

Personally, I think Times Square at night are fantastic and unmatched. The theaters of Broadway and the huge number of animated neon and LED signs have long made them one of New York's iconic images, so you should not miss this scene.

the tall buildings are glittering and sparkling, showing different info. first-time comers always feel they unconsciously enter a fairyland. the amazing spectacles will look more stunning at night. the shops are unique, even the common things will look fantastic under the light.

as to broadway show, it is not that important if you haven't enough time/money to enjoy it, you can sense the atmosphere enough outside. besides, it is not that crowd at night, quiet and different.

that is why i seldom come in daytimee.

    Have a good time...
    NYC- Love it there. %26lt;3

I'm NY born, sadly moved to Texas as a baby. But I still go there every summer.

    The nightclubs are pretty good.

The comedy shows are GOOD! Haha.

Central Park and Shopping is must for nighttime.

What's really fun at NYC at night are the local indie shows.

Idk what type of music you like, but there are tons of venues where local bands play every night.

Gah, this makes me feel homesick. :(

Native New YorkerWhat are the best things to do in NYC?
Summer or winter, rain or shine, there's always great stuff going on in New York City, so there's no real "best" time to go.

Culture hounds might come in fall, winter, and early spring, when the theater and performing-arts seasons reach their heights. During summer, many of the top cultural institutions, especially Lincoln Center, offer free, alfresco entertainment. Those who want to see the biggest hits on Broadway usually have the best luck getting tickets in the slower months of January and February.

Gourmands might find it easiest to land the best tables during July and August, when New Yorkers escape the city on weekends. If you prefer to walk every city block to take in the sights, spring and fall usually offer the mildest and most pleasant weather.

New York is a nonstop holiday party from early December through the start of the New Year. Celebrations of the season abound in festive holiday windows and events like the lighting of the Rockefeller Center tree and the Radio City Christmas Spectacular -- not to mention those terrific seasonal sales that make New York a holiday shopping bonanza.

However, keep in mind that hotel prices go sky high, and the crowds are almost intolerable. If you'd rather have more of the city to yourself -- better chances at restaurant reservations and shows, easier access to museums and other attractions -- choose another time of year to visit.

Money Matters -- Hotel prices have gone up the past couple of years and bargains are harder to find. Therefore, if money is a big concern, you might want to follow these rough seasonal guidelines.

Bargain hunters might want to visit in winter, between the first of the year and early April. Sure, you might have to bear some cold weather, but that's when hotels are suffering from the post-holiday blues, and rooms often go for a relative song -- a song in this case meaning a room with a private bathroom for as little as $150. AAA cardholders can do even better in many cases (generally a 5%-10% savings if the hotel offers a AAA discount). However, be aware that the occasional convention or event, such as February's annual Fashion Week, can sometimes throw a wrench in your winter savings plans.

Spring and fall are traditionally the busiest and most expensive seasons after holiday time. Don't expect hotels to be handing you deals, but you may be able to negotiate a decent rate.

The city is drawing more families these days, and they usually visit in the summer. Still, the prospect of heat and humidity keeps some people away, making July and the first half of August a cheaper time to visit than later in the year; good hotel deals are often available.

During the Christmas season, expect to pay top dollar for everything. The first 2 weeks of December -- the shopping weeks -- are the worst when it comes to scoring an affordable hotel room; that's when shoppers from around the world converge on the town to catch the holiday spirit and spend, spend, spend. But Thanksgiving can be a great time to come, believe it or not: Business travelers have gone home, and the holiday shoppers haven't yet arrived. It's a little-known secret that most hotels away from the Thanksgiving Day Parade route have empty rooms, and they're usually willing to make great deals to fill them.

Weather -- Many consider that long week or 10 days that arrive each summer between mid-July and mid-August, when temperatures go up to around 100掳F (38掳C) with 90% humidity, as New York's worst weather. But don't get put off by this -- summer has its compensations, such as wonderful free open-air concerts and other events, as I've mentioned -- but bear it in mind. But if you are at all temperature sensitive, your odds of getting comfortable weather are better in June or September.

Another period when you might not like to stroll around the city is during January or February, when temperatures are commonly in the 20s (below 0 Celsius) and those concrete canyons turn into wind tunnels. The city looks gorgeous for about a day after a snowfall, but the streets soon become a slushy mess. Again, you never know -- temperatures have regularly been in the 30s and mild 40s (single digits Celsius) during the past few "global warmed" winters. If you hit the weather jackpot, you could have a bargain bonanza.

Fall and spring are the best times in New York. From April to June and September to November, temperatures are mild and pleasant, and the light is beautiful. With the leaves changing in Central Park and just the hint of crispness in the air, October is a fabulous time to be here -- but expect to pay for the privilege.

How do restaurants calculate the hours you work?

A friend of mine works in a decent restaurant in NYC. Thing is, they never 'time in' or 'time out' and there seems to be no recordkeeping of hours worked... Is this normal, or even legal? My friend is from out of state and finds this very unusual. How do restaurants calculate the hours you work?
Every employee should record their own time. A restaurant may pay according to scheduled hours, however I have never known a restaurant that did not ask staff to work later than scheduled.

I would check with your local restaurant association or the National Restaurant Association on this one.

In the past, I can tell you that I am pretty certain that if I did not pay employees for hours worked, I would be in trouble with the department of labor! We work with owners who are selling their restaurants, and when someone buys this restaurant for sale, we advise them to check the local labor laws to keep themselves out of trouble.

    Take Care,

They probably just go by the schedule. If your friend misses a shift or is very late for one or something, they'd make a note of it and deduct those hours when they're doing the payroll.

  • How do you ship your stuff to college when you live really far away?

I live in New york city and im going to college this fall. How do i get my things from NYC to Nashville, TN? (Also, i don't have a car)How do you ship your stuff to college when you live really far away?
Depends on what you are planning to take. Try to limit your stuff as much as possible. You don't need lots of clothes if you will just plan to wash them weekly. Same with sheets and towels. Take one set and wash weekly. Even better is to sign up for the linen service at your dorm -- take the dirty ones and exchange them for clean ones weekly. Much easier than laundry.

One way to plan this is to take what you will need for the first two weeks, then have your parents UPS other things to arrive after you do. That way you don't have to worry about who receives the shipment. Do try to prepare a list of what you need and see if there are things you can buy in Nashville cheaper than shipping. For example, you can buy a bed pillow for under $5, but it takes up a lot of room in a box.

Your biggest problem will be buying things without access to a car. There are lots of thrift stores in Nashville, but it won't save money if you have to use a taxi to get there and back. How do you ship your stuff to college when you live really far away?
If you want to ship furniture hire a moving company

For books and small things either UPS or carry with you in your suitcase

Sometimes it makes sense to buy new things rather than hauling old stuff from your homeHow do you ship your stuff to college when you live really far away?
A big suitcase. Ship it by UPS or Greyhound Package Express. Limit it to light high value stuff. Cheap and/or heavy stuff you are better off to buy them there.

    30th Birthday NYC Trip?

For my 30th birthday in June I am headed to New York City! I was wondering any amazing restaurants, bars or sights and places I need to see while there. I do live in Las Vegas so I have access to a lot of great things. But NYC specific and things we don't have here I would love to experience!30th Birthday NYC Trip?
    Hmmm.

That's hard! There are way too many things to list! There are so many types of places for everyone. I would say that you should check out http://www.yelp.com and go from there. If you want really crazy, you might want to look into The Box.

Chinatown has incredible food. And of course Little Italy. It really is based on you. Maybe be a bit more precise.

Sorry I can't be much of help

What are some fun family things to do in NYC or Boston?

I am 14, and my family is going to Manhattan soon to have fun before school starts. I have a little 5-year-old, and my mom who can't really do anything to crazy (cliff-jumping, huge malls, etc) because she has RA, scoliosis, etc. We might also go to Boston instead, so I want to hear about that as well. We live in CT, so it's the same distance. No links please. What are some fun family things to do in NYC or Boston?
Times Square is always a popular destination... i was just in NYC like 2 weeks ago and i really enjoyed that area. Also Central Park, or those Ripley museum's or Madam Tussaid's are quite interesting. And actually, there is a tour from NYC to Boston. It's a one day trip, 4 hour drive. In Boston, there is Quincy market in Boston which was really cool. When i went to Boston, there was also the Freedom Trail which was quite interesting. Boston is a little more laid back then NYC, so if you go there, it's not as busy and chaotic. Both are really nice and interesting though! What are some fun family things to do in NYC or Boston?
If you are only in the city you should

    - Go to tea; I suggest going to the Taj.

    - Go shopping on Newbury Street; Many fun stores to shop in, and if you do go to the Taj it is right next store.

    - Go to Paul Reveres House in the North End; Visit the historic landmark and then enjoy the North End. Great bakeries, and just a fun time!

    - See the Tall Ships; This only applies if they are in.

    - Go on a cruise around Boston harbour; Not sure if there are any day cruise lines, or if you have to rent them. My school rents the Odyssey every year for our school to spend the day on, and have a dance on that night.

    - Eat at PF Changs; An amazing Chinese restaurant in the Theatre district.

    If you have a car . . .

    - Go to the beach; I suggest going to Salisbury or Glauster. It may take a while to get there but the Cape is fun too!

    - Go to Polo; Polo matches usually run on Sundays at the Mipoia polo field in Hamilton Wenham.

    - Go to Canopie Lake Park; A fun amusement park!

    - Visit Salem; Salem MA, go to the Witch House, and House of 7 Gables!

    - Just drive; Drive around and look at the wonderful New England colonials! **One of my favourite tihngs to do!

Hope this helps! And have fun! What are some fun family things to do in NYC or Boston?
I recommend the Bronx Zoo. It's free on Wednesday and Saturday mornings but worth the money to get in on other days. Very near the Bx Zoo is the New York Botanical Gardens. They are very relaxing and pretty to just wander around. If you're staying in Manhattan, Central Park has the Swedish Cottage and Central Park Zoo. Both the Bronx Zoo and the Central Park Zoo have really nice Children's Zoo's. Hope you have fun! What are some fun family things to do in NYC or Boston?
= There is a lot to do in Boston if you ask questions like this, or simply go surfing online to places such as

Eat sweets at Mikes Pastry, Hanover Street

    North End

Soak in the atmosphere by strolling the harborfront.

The Harborwalk parallels the Boston Harbor.

It winds its way through the wharves and waterfront areas through the entire length of Boston.

See a movie at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts

Go camping at a Boston Harbor Island.

Stargaze at the Museum of Science Gilliand Hall.
My friend, not sure about Boston, but in New York City, there are a lot of thing to see and due here. The blog post at link below has a small list of top attractions in the city. For the full list, click on the link at the bottom of the post.

I always go to radio city and see the big tree, but what else can i do?What are some good things to do in NYC for christmas?
Step 1 Go skating with a loved one or a group of loved ones at Wollman Rink in Central Park or at the rink at Rockefeller Center.

Step 2 Buy a special toy for that special little someone at FAO Schwartz's famous toy store on Fifth Avenue off of 58th Street.

Step 3 While on Fifth Avenue, stroll from 57th Street and head downtown towards 45th Street and see all the wonderfully decorated department stores windows and hotel lobbies.

Step 4 Go see The Christmas Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall, How the Grinch Stole Christmas on Broadway, or The Nutcracker at Lincoln Center.

Step 5 See the Christmas tree display at Rockefeller Center, Lincoln Center (a tree decorated with different ornaments, which I believe they change every year), and South Street Seaport (a pretty tree paired with a carolers set up in the shape of a tree).

Step 6 Buy tickets to the Winter Solstice celebration concert at St John the Divine Cathedral (one of the most spectacular churches in NYC, located near Columbia University).

Step 7 See the beautifully decorated Macy's (flagship) department store at 34th Street and Broadway.

We are going into the city on December 13. Looking for some interesting ideas. What are some fun, inexpensive things to do in NYC for a family of six?
I'm single and an only child lol so I don't have many family ideas but this site is a great resource, lists a bunch of free things to do in NYC: http://www.clubfreetime.com/viewcategory鈥?/a>

My favorite cheap places that will be good for kids to eat are:

http://cheapassfood.com/eats/show/317-lu鈥?/a> in the area is Little italy (pizza yum!) and china town, which will have fun and unique little shops. The stuff here will amuse anyone ages 5 - 90. I recommend visiting a chinese bakery or finding some bubble tea, I'm addicted to bubble tea, it's fun to drink ~ kids will love this! http://cheapassfood.com/eats/show/76-if-鈥?/a>

Staten Island Ferry - it's free!

Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. [It will be very cold, however, in December!]

    "Window shop" on Fifth Avenue.

Step into St. Patrick's Cathedral while you're window shopping on Fifth. And stop by the Rockefeller Center ice rink to see the tree, Prometheus, etc.

Choose an "ethnic" neighborhood and walk/munch/shop - Chinatown, Little Italy, etc.

Have a "slice" at one of the many pizza shops; have a hot dog from one of the many carts - and a pretzel, too!

Stroll in Central Park, especially the southern end - DAYTIME ONLY!!

Go to FAO Schwarz and browse.

etc, etc, etc!!What are some fun, inexpensive things to do in NYC for a family of six?
see the xmas windows and the tree in Rockerfeller center. Free ice skating in Bryant park (you have to rent skates). Admission to Metropolitan Museum of Art and Museum of Natural History is pay what you wish. Take a ride on the MTA bus down 5th ave. Staten Island ferry is free, dinner in china town can be inexpensiveWhat are some fun, inexpensive things to do in NYC for a family of six?
Depending on their ages, energy level, etc., here's what I do with my own kids:

Staying in midtown area? Parts of Broadway have been closed to cars and are pedestrian mall with tables and chairs! TImes Square visitor's information center at 46th street (near huge red steps/TKTs counters) has computers to send free video postcard (others for photo e-cards) done on the spot, free and very fun! Can be sent right then to any email addresses with short greeting. Lotsa tourist brochures there. bathrooms, chairs to rest in for kids. It was being renovated when I was there last but it will be ready again soon, no harm checking. open till 7 pm, next to West Side Story theater. This show has a lottery, btw. 2 hours before curtain, (ie show up a bit earlier) write your name and "2" on a card. EVERYONE in your family who can write can do this too. all need a photo ID (school id card? pool card? for young kids not needed if parents there too) any card chosen means you can buy 2 tickets in the FRONT row for $25 instead of over $100!! cheap? no, but priceless memories at a HUGE discount for the older kids--if 6 of you try, maybe one or 2 cards will get drawn, dep. on crowds, meaning 2 or 4 of you could go while the others have another plan. Toys R Us store Times Square Ferris Wheel and huge lego display, for example (not for boys only! very impressive to see what can be made with imagination even for non-lego fans)

Take them to "The Strand" bookstore, 12th street and Broadway. Really, there is something for everyone--parents could split up with kids. Huge kids' section for difft. ages, clean bathrooms nearby (with view). Free bookmarks, all kinds of tschotkes, but the real draw is the BOOKS. over 18 miles of them, new and used. It is a peaceful place, near Union Square. You could go to farmer's market at Union Square with them first and have a picnic--it might not be too cold if they're dressed correctly and the sun is shining. It's 3 days a week. Huge, wonderful, organic apples, baked things, bread, hot cider, interesting people and old photographs, etc. Even the dog run there is amusing....If you want them to continue to love reading, a store like this is a big help. I let my kids sit on the floor and daydream with lots of books, then we all pic out something for ourselves. I look at this as a kind of investment.

It'll be cheaper for you to take a mini-van cab then subway with so many of you. But don't count on taxis when it's raining or theater or normal rush hour.

Another way to save money you probably already know: make a cooler out of hotel wastepaper basket. Use the one that gets the least use, wash it a bit, line with plastic garbage bag there, and fill with ice. we do use supermarkets here in NYC but they are sometimes underground! I keep milk this way, cottage cheese, yogurt, sandwich things, etc. It's very easy.

Mariott Marquis (46th St. in -Times Square) has fun elevators my son likes to go up and down with great atrium view. When they go fast (express) on the way down you can jump up like in ballet class and it feels a little like flying! Don't eat on Broadway or 7th avenue. Walk 5 minutes west, save 5 bucks a person.....There are lots of Subway restaurants, familiar to kids, nutritious, and cheap.

well, I could go on, but you're probably getting a lot of good advice from others too. finally: www.about.com has special sections devoted to travel in NYC. see also www.tripadvisor.com

One more thing! Go to gospel music church service at Times Square Church on Sunday night, 6 pm. Don't try the morning if you can avoid it because you'd have to get there 30 min. early or more to sit together, it's THAT popular with locals and visitors. Even if you are not a believer, the music will inspire your kids, especially if you have been trying to get them to practice their instruments lately.... go to the quieter neighborhoods, too--e.g. Madison Square Park is near the Flatiron building, our first skyscraper. It has an interesting history and very cool appearance.

If you are going to Statue of Liberty anyway, be SURE to get on first boat so you will automatically be given passes to the excellent, kid-friendly, and very museum at the base. These tickets run out quickly. Also research: Sonywonder Lab or something like that--free displays of computer/tech stuff kids like, in midtown. Also: nintendo store--play with a Wii together! try to avoid crowded times for this kind of thing in a store. NYC stores expect that many people are tourists and might not actually buy anything when they are looking at expensive stuff, as long as you are considerate. oh, I could write more...I'll end with suggesting a visit to absolutely hilarious holiday short-term rental of a building by the Charmin (yep, Charmin) company to provide fun public bathrooms in Times Square. It's a whole universe of silliness--dancers, sleigh ride free photo op, multiple "cabins" --little individual restrooms cleaned after each use by guys who are comedians...
    visit the museums in nyc!

MoMa (if your family is into modern arts)

guggenheim (amazing abstract and visual arts museum)

museum of natural history (contains a lot of interesting exhibits)

metropolitan museum (yet another amazing art museum with works from all over the world)

visit central park, it's an amazing place! there is an ice skating rink inside and a zoo (don't know if it's open now though since the weather has been warm.) just don't get lost the park is about the size of 51 city blocks!

    walk across the brooklyn bridge

there are cheap eats in chinatown if you want to taste authentic chinese food

times square (but i'm sure you already knew that!) but definitely go watch a broadway show there!

since you're visiting in december, then you must go to rockefeller center with the huge christmas trees and a bunch of other extravagant christmas decorations.

    have fun!

What are some fun, cheap things to do in NYC?

My boyfriend is visiting for a week before he goes home to Namibia, and we'll be staying in NYC. I live in Upstate New York near Albany, and I'm not familiar with the City very well. For more outdoorsy types of things, there's free kayaking on the Hudson River which is really fun. It's all summer long I believe, and you get to use a kayak for free for 20 minutes. (locations: Pier 40 at Houston Street ,Pier 96 at 56th Street, 72nd Street in Riverside Park )

There's also always a lot of summer concerts going on in Central Park that are free and usually interesting to see

One of my favorite things to do for cheap in NYC is the UCB Theater...it's a comedy club that always seems to be really good...their shows are like 5 or 10 bucks but if you go on a Sunday night for ASSSCAT 3000, that's probably my favorite. It's an all improv show but done by professionals and even some celebrities (I've seen Amy Poehler, Jason Sudeikis, and Horatio Sanz there before). You have to get there early though to get tickets (website: http://newyork.ucbtheatre.com/ ).

Hope that gives you some ideas though there's plenty to do for free there if you search hard enough :) Have fun! :DWhat are some fun, cheap things to do in NYC?
Central Park! Just walk around, or sometimes they have little free concerts and stuff... Or you could do tourist-y stuff like the Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, etc. Museums like the Natural History Museum, Museum of Modern Art, Guggenheim, etc. Or just sort of wander. There's a ton of stuff! What are some fun, cheap things to do in NYC?

    Should i get a ferret?

Hi im a 12year old girl in the7th grade i live in nyc i know their illegal here but idc they can kiss my *** if they dare touch my ferret and i will attack them seriosly no one would ever hurt my pet , well heres the question are ferrets good pets how much do they cost how big and expensive are the cage, food, litter box and are they good for a 1br apartment .

I will spend a lot of time with this ferret i really want one the mustelidae is my favorite species any ways in 2more years i might move out of NYC (thank god) and heres a thing NYC is a bad place to live but are they good pets.

Ok if u say there bad for my age cuz im too young dude i aint a 6year old and im not afraid of getting a lil nip my hamster use to always bite me lol.

But if i cant get a ferret are rats good pets i was thinking of getting a white lab rat because there cute.

Ty for thanking your timeShould i get a ferret?
Ferrets are only illigal in some broughhs (sp lol) in NY, are you sure they are illegal where you live? If they are, and someone tells on you or something they CAN take your ferret away and fine you quite a bit for it.

They are cute but they cost a bundle. The initial set up cost for a ferret would be ATLEAST 500$ unless you get one from craigslist or one froma shelter. And taking good care of your ferret will cost you a lot too, ferrets are prone to illiness so when he gets adrenal or insulima you'll have to find a vet that will do all the vaccines etc on him so he can stay healthy.

The ferret will cost anywhere between 75-250 (shelters are cheapest, then its pet stores then its breeders). You cna get a decent cage for them for about 40$. a 5 lb bag of food for one ferret will last two months and be something like 15$. same for litter but it'd be bigger. They are good anywhere aslong as its ferret proofed and they have atleast 4 hours outside of their cage and you interact with them during that time.

My ferrets dont bite, they don't smell. It all depends on how you take care of them and what kind of time you put into your pet that will ultimately decide how it becomes. Do your research and you'll have a sweet ferret.

But in all honesty, only unless your parents will help you take care of the ferret I think a ferret will be too much to take care of for someone in the 7th grade.

I dont know anything about rats :PShould i get a ferret?
Ferrets can be cheaper than cats in the short run. They eat less, and use the litter box less. But they are prone to cancer. My friend had one, and Cammie was great, but she eventually got lymphoma and treatments became expensive.

A nice new ferret cage can run you between $150-300, but you might want to check out sites like freecycle.com and craigslist.org. Sometimes people are selling their ferret gear and you can find a good deal.

Consider how much time the ferret will need to be in a cage or run, the time you spend at school, etc. Cammie had the run of her house most of the time, and you may find you want to do the same with your ferret so a $300 cage with bells and whistles may not be as necessary.

As for finding a ferret, you can try various sites like petfinder.com, but most reputable groups will want know if your apartment allows ferrets as part of the adoption criteria. And since most people know about the ferret ban, you might be looking at getting a rat instead for the short term.

Either way, good luck and I hope you find a good pet.Should i get a ferret?
Yes, they can be great pets. A ferret costs about 130 dollars at a pet store, and they're usually neutured or spayed and have thier first canine distemper shot. The cage's price has a big range. It will cost you around 100 dollars for a cheap one. Extra large dog cages are suitable, but they need to be at least 2 1/2 feet wide, 3 feet long and 2 1/2 feet tall. They also like multiple level cages. A bag of ferret food is generally not expensive and will last a while. Litterboxes are also about 10 bucks. Your space is time, just make sure it gets proper excercise.

Yes rats are really good pets. Cheap, easy to care for, social, interactive and playful.Should i get a ferret?
    they are very good pets!

but, if you have a baby brother or sister, or one coming, dont

my grandmas friend told me that she knew a family who had a ferret, it got out of its cage at night and bit a baby on the face, arm, leg, and belly, the baby bled to death

sorry, that was a bit creepy, but still

if you dont have any babies or disabled people living in your house

    GO FOR IT

they are really cute, fuzzy, easier to take carae of, fun, yeah!

    for the rat

DONT get a "lab" rat, they die very fast, get a rat, any kind that is not meant for tests (lol) or food (for snakes)

but they are gennerally good pets to
I had a ferret and i really liked it!

Positives and Negatives of having ferets as pets!

    Positive:

1.Ferrets sold in the United States begin their human contact as soon as their eyes open. Because of this and genetics, they tend to be gentle and rarely bite.

2.They are less prone to biting children than are dogs and cats.

3.Ferrets are not very expensive and are readily available.

4.Ferrets do not require much space. They are economical to keep and do not require exotic diets or habitats. Males weigh two and a half to three pounds. Females are half as heavy as males.

5.Ferrets rarely make noise unless accidentally stepped on.

6.Ferrets interact closely with their owners and return affection.

7.Ferrets are not messy or destructive pets.

    Negatives:

1.Ferrets do not do well in heat and high humidity. They prefer a centrally air conditioned home.

2.Ferrets do not generally live as long as dogs and cats. This is because they are very prone to cancer. Therefore, older ferrets can run up large veterinary bills.

3.Ferrets normally have a musky odor that some people find annoying. Females are less pungent than males but females still have a distinctive ferret odor. Descenting surgery does not remove all this odor. Purchasing descented ferrets and bathing them weekly in baby shampoo and then applying a cream rinse minimizes this odor.

4.At last reading, ferrets were still illegal pets in California and Hawaii. Those laws need to be changed.

Some might consider ferrets hyperactive – if they are sitting still they are probably asleep.

5.Ferrets tend to hoard food and toys, which I suppose, could be considered an annoyance. With regular cleaning of their cages pockets of old food should not be a problem.

6.Ferrets love to get into tight spots and are often difficult to extricate. So it is necessary to “ferret proof” your house.
