You and you friend can take a ride on the Staten Island Ferry and take the of picture of the Statue of Liberty as the boat crosses the Harbor. The ferry is free.
The Brooklyn Bridge will be another option. Its free and the view from the midspan is faboulus.
I would also recommend walking over the Brooklyn Promodae, which located just off the Brooklyn Bridge, and enjoy a view of the New York City Skyline.

walk threw times square its actually more trilling then it sounds or seems.
Walk across the Brooklyn bridge ,the view is beautiful you get to see the most Beautiful skyline of new york city totally breath taking Ive seen it more then a dozen time and its still very much trilling
And thats about it all the rest things that are for free are crappy.
