I'm traveling to New York City next week and am there for a week with a friend. She lives in Jersey so has been there a few times, while I have been there about 4 as I live across the country. (I've done all the usual things out-of-staters can do there)
We're both in college as musical theatre majors so we will be seeing shows and are both also on a semi-small budget.
Any unique shops, restaurants... Just fun things that won't have a zillion people around them snapping pictures.
thanks!NYC locals- things to do that aren't "touristy"?
Watch the off-Broadway production Blue Man Group.
Visit Kensington Stables (near Prospect Park) and ride a horse
Enjoy a concert at McCarren Park in Brooklyn (directions are on the website)NYC locals- things to do that aren't "touristy"?

I am a die hard New Yorker and in Manhattan you can't go anywhere without it being crowded, that is one thing for sure.Try Central Park,or even Prospect Park in Brooklyn.
