What are some cool things to do in NYC?

I'm visiting NYC and while I will visit the museums and see some shows, I was wondering if there were any other events or something else non-touristy that someone could suggest. Also how's the weather?What are some cool things to do in NYC?
Where to start...I guess you're looking for day-time activities? Staten Island ferry (it's free of charge) gets you a great view of the Statue of Liberty and the NY skyline, without having to go on a tourist trip per-se. You don't get to see the statue though - so take that into consideration if that's high on your list? There are plenty of walks that you can do - upper east side, The Village, Soho, Chinatown. Just wander around the area, have lunch, shop a little. Also, if you like shopping you could head to Canal St (knock-off handbags/belts/watches etc) stall after stall. Weather in April could be nice, but could be rainy too...who knows nowadays!? Just watch out the week before to get an idea of what to take. For a bit of light-hearted fun you could head to the FAO Schwartz toy-store - even as an adult I like it there! While in New York, I STRONGLY suggest you go to see a fun show called Fuerzabruta in downtown New York. It is very fun! It's almost like a club, but there's no age limit! In the main lobby, there is a bar for refreshments, and there are souvenirs of the show, like little key chains and t-shirts.
