I go to New York at least twice a year...I've done the whole tourist thing--and I will come up in June. I just wanted some ideas on things to do that are a little off the beaten path that a TRUE New Yorker would know about. I'm 28, gay, male.What are fun non tourist things to do in NYC for a 20 something?
kayaking in the hudson, rent a bike and bike along the west side hwy on the bike paths. go bowling at lucky strike on 42 and 12 ave
check out the flea markets, garage on 25 st tween 6th %26amp; 7th, bklyn flea in bklyn, 39st tweeen 9th %26amp; 10th
Stop at madison square park 23 st and 5th ave and get a burger and shake at the shake shack just hang out relax and people watch.

From the point of view of another non-resident but frequent visitor:
Hang out in Greenwich Village and Washington Square Park.
Off-broadway and off-off-broadway plays.
Comedy clubs.
Cultural events at the 92nd street Y and Symphony Space

Go shopping for chinese stuff at Pearl River, a huge Chinese department store.
