Why do people from NYC act as if they are so tough?

I grew up in the south bronx when it was bad... we did all it all, and I mean things that kids out there would never repeat.

But I grew up moved to San francisco and now I'm a SAP

engineer.

Whenever I visit the city and go out I want to throw up whenever I see these nyc transplants touting "well we're from nyc so things are tougher out here",or" we're faster paced than you guys out there"...In my opinion New york is nothing like the cultural melting pot that I remember.

You can't even get into a decent nightclub unless you're buying a bottle of overpriced champagne.

The people seem so fake and concerned with sleeping with as many people as possible.

The streets are dirty, requiring copious amounts of face wash to remove the layers of soot.

People from new york are not what they used to be...What happened to the love? what happened to our P.R pride parade? What happened to The vibe at the clubs?

Places like the tunnel, twilo, vinyl(the arc) ,Palladium?Why do people from NYC act as if they are so tough?
We act tough because we are.

My observation is that people in large cities that have no natural resources available can only feed on each other. The toughest dog always wins the fight.

You just hanging with the wrong people. and you are getting older every minute.
NYC is a city in decline and I think the people there know it and put up a front. The buildings are old, the infrastructure is aging, and the nightlife is average. In the USA , Chicago is a much better city, worldwide NYC would not hold a candle to Hong Kong.Why do people from NYC act as if they are so tough?
You are getting older. Who cares about nightclubs anyway, once you reach a certain age they are not fun anymore. It is hard to survive there, so people have to at least pretend to be tough or they will be taken advantaged of.
The old Palladium on 14th Street was legendary. Frank Sinatra even played there during the 1940s to a bunch of bobby soxers.What happened? One word - gentrification.
Well I went to New York in May and loved it. I found it a very vibrant, friendly city. Although I'm from the suburbs, and went for 3 days. I'm not exactly someone who really knows New York.
Since the 80's, New York has changed and cleaned up it's act. I have never lived there, but visited the city 8 times since 1976 and will say New York is better in 2006 than in 1976. Also remember 9-11; you know it changed the city. As far as tough and hardnose attitude, too many people to deal with on a daily basis and stress from everyday life.
