What are some things to do in NYC for the whole family?

I'm going to go to New York City this summer with my parents and younger brother, he is 15, what are some fun things to do for everyone? What are some things to do in NYC for the whole family?
My friend Mike who is a Rapid Response Engineer in Microsoft based on New York City, sent me this list when I asked him about his top 10 places to see in NYC, as I was going there on vacation. ( I copied and pasted the exact way he sent me).

(1) Statue of Liberty 鈥?most touristy place for out-of-town tourists; a lot of New Yorkers have never visited.

(2) Time Square 鈥?crowded, not very far from the MS New York office; there is a place to buy half-priced ticket for Broadway shows for the same night.

(3) The Metropolitan Museum of Art 鈥?one of top art museums of the world; takes more than one day to finish; a stroll in the Central Park afterwards is highly recommended.

(4) Rockefeller Center 鈥?largest Christmas tree in the world (so claimed); NBC TV studio and store are there.

(5) Chinatown 鈥?very crowded, good Cantonese or Sichuan restaurants; next to Little Italy with good Italian food.

(6) The New York Stock Exchange 鈥?the center of Capitalism. Wall Street and Ground Zero are nearby too.

(7) The Empire State Building 鈥?tallest building after 9/11 with observation deck on top.

(8) Brooklyn Bridge 鈥?You can walk on the bridge and have a good view of the East River. The bridge was the tallest structure in the world when it was built late 19 century.

(9) Big Apple Bus Tour 鈥?a city-wide bus tour you can hop on and off at many points; good and quick way to see different parts of the city.

(10) Fifth Avenue 鈥?Christmas shopping (or just window shopping) for fashion; downtown West Broadway has more upscale fashion boutiques (places where you can shop for your wife/husband but things can be a bit expensive that you will be secretly happy that she does not come along).

I think you should at least go to one good restaurant for Western cuisine and a French bakery for pastry. There are too many good choices to list. What are some things to do in NYC for the whole family?

there is a really fun restaurant their called Jackal and Hyde, the theme is the waiters and waitresses try to scare people. It is pretty fun.
You should definitely at least have a look at the huge department stores like Saks, Bergdorfs, Barneys and Henri Bendel. Then go for a carriage ride through Central Park, have dinner at Sushi Samba and have a look at SoHo. You could see the Statue of Liberty, and you should go to the Met(I love the Met I go there all the time, it never seems to get boring), however forget MoMa, it's not worth the long wait or the money. If you want to get some bargain designer clthes head down to Century 21 too. Have fun, I hope you enjoy what the city has to offer:)What are some things to do in NYC for the whole family?
Check out the Museum of Natural History. I loved it as a child and as an adult. It's huge, extremely interesting and there is something for everyone... and, no, the dinosaurs really don't come to life at night! Of course, you have to go see the Statue of Liberty and definitely try a dirty water dog. You'll love 'em. Have a great time!
