What are some fun, cheap things to do in NYC?

My boyfriend is visiting for a week before he goes home to Namibia, and we'll be staying in NYC. I live in Upstate New York near Albany, and I'm not familiar with the City very well. What are some fun things to do or go to that are relatively inexpensive? He'll be here July 5th through the 10th if there's anything going on then...

Depends on what you like to do...



For more outdoorsy types of things, there's free kayaking on the Hudson River which is really fun. It's all summer long I believe, and you get to use a kayak for free for 20 minutes. (locations: Pier 40 at Houston Street ,Pier 96 at 56th Street, 72nd Street in Riverside Park )



There's also always a lot of summer concerts going on in Central Park that are free and usually interesting to see



One of my favorite things to do for cheap in NYC is the UCB Theater...it's a comedy club that always seems to be really good...their shows are like 5 or 10 bucks but if you go on a Sunday night for ASSSCAT 3000, that's probably my favorite. It's an all improv show but done by professionals and even some celebrities (I've seen Amy Poehler, Jason Sudeikis, and Horatio Sanz there before). You have to get there early though to get tickets (website: http://newyork.ucbtheatre.com/ ).

Central Park! Just walk around, or sometimes they have little free concerts and stuff... Or you could do tourist-y stuff like the Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, etc. Museums like the Natural History Museum, Museum of Modern Art, Guggenheim, etc. Or just sort of wander. -Times Square (no trip is complete without a visit to the"Crossroads of the World")

-Central Park

-Catch a Broadway show

-Shop

-Visit the museum.
