Should i get a ferret?

Hi im a 12year old girl in the7th grade i live in nyc i know their illegal here but idc they can kiss my *** if they dare touch my ferret and i will attack them seriosly no one would ever hurt my pet , well heres the question are ferrets good pets how much do they cost how big and expensive are the cage, food, litter box and are they good for a 1br apartment .

I will spend a lot of time with this ferret i really want one the mustelidae is my favorite species any ways in 2more years i might move out of NYC (thank god) and heres a thing NYC is a bad place to live but are they good pets.

Ok if u say there bad for my age cuz im too young dude i aint a 6year old and im not afraid of getting a lil nip my hamster use to always bite me lol.

But if i cant get a ferret are rats good pets i was thinking of getting a white lab rat because there cute.

Ty for thanking your timeShould i get a ferret?
Ferrets are only illigal in some broughhs (sp lol) in NY, are you sure they are illegal where you live? If they are, and someone tells on you or something they CAN take your ferret away and fine you quite a bit for it.

They are cute but they cost a bundle. The initial set up cost for a ferret would be ATLEAST 500$ unless you get one from craigslist or one froma shelter. And taking good care of your ferret will cost you a lot too, ferrets are prone to illiness so when he gets adrenal or insulima you'll have to find a vet that will do all the vaccines etc on him so he can stay healthy.

The ferret will cost anywhere between 75-250 (shelters are cheapest, then its pet stores then its breeders). You cna get a decent cage for them for about 40$. a 5 lb bag of food for one ferret will last two months and be something like 15$. same for litter but it'd be bigger. They are good anywhere aslong as its ferret proofed and they have atleast 4 hours outside of their cage and you interact with them during that time.

My ferrets dont bite, they don't smell. It all depends on how you take care of them and what kind of time you put into your pet that will ultimately decide how it becomes. Do your research and you'll have a sweet ferret.

But in all honesty, only unless your parents will help you take care of the ferret I think a ferret will be too much to take care of for someone in the 7th grade.

I dont know anything about rats :PShould i get a ferret?
Ferrets can be cheaper than cats in the short run. They eat less, and use the litter box less. But they are prone to cancer. My friend had one, and Cammie was great, but she eventually got lymphoma and treatments became expensive.

A nice new ferret cage can run you between $150-300, but you might want to check out sites like freecycle.com and craigslist.org. Sometimes people are selling their ferret gear and you can find a good deal.

Consider how much time the ferret will need to be in a cage or run, the time you spend at school, etc. Cammie had the run of her house most of the time, and you may find you want to do the same with your ferret so a $300 cage with bells and whistles may not be as necessary.

As for finding a ferret, you can try various sites like petfinder.com, but most reputable groups will want know if your apartment allows ferrets as part of the adoption criteria. And since most people know about the ferret ban, you might be looking at getting a rat instead for the short term.

Either way, good luck and I hope you find a good pet.Should i get a ferret?
Yes, they can be great pets. A ferret costs about 130 dollars at a pet store, and they're usually neutured or spayed and have thier first canine distemper shot. The cage's price has a big range. It will cost you around 100 dollars for a cheap one. Extra large dog cages are suitable, but they need to be at least 2 1/2 feet wide, 3 feet long and 2 1/2 feet tall. They also like multiple level cages. A bag of ferret food is generally not expensive and will last a while. Litterboxes are also about 10 bucks. Your space is time, just make sure it gets proper excercise.

Yes rats are really good pets. Cheap, easy to care for, social, interactive and playful.Should i get a ferret?
they are very good pets!

but, if you have a baby brother or sister, or one coming, dont

my grandmas friend told me that she knew a family who had a ferret, it got out of its cage at night and bit a baby on the face, arm, leg, and belly, the baby bled to death

sorry, that was a bit creepy, but still

if you dont have any babies or disabled people living in your house

GO FOR IT

they are really cute, fuzzy, easier to take carae of, fun, yeah!

for the rat

DONT get a "lab" rat, they die very fast, get a rat, any kind that is not meant for tests (lol) or food (for snakes)

but they are gennerally good pets to
I had a ferret and i really liked it!

Positives and Negatives of having ferets as pets!

Positive:

1.Ferrets sold in the United States begin their human contact as soon as their eyes open. Because of this and genetics, they tend to be gentle and rarely bite.

2.They are less prone to biting children than are dogs and cats.

3.Ferrets are not very expensive and are readily available.

4.Ferrets do not require much space. They are economical to keep and do not require exotic diets or habitats. Males weigh two and a half to three pounds. Females are half as heavy as males.

5.Ferrets rarely make noise unless accidentally stepped on.

6.Ferrets interact closely with their owners and return affection.

7.Ferrets are not messy or destructive pets.

Negatives:

1.Ferrets do not do well in heat and high humidity. They prefer a centrally air conditioned home.

2.Ferrets do not generally live as long as dogs and cats. This is because they are very prone to cancer. Therefore, older ferrets can run up large veterinary bills.

3.Ferrets normally have a musky odor that some people find annoying. Females are less pungent than males but females still have a distinctive ferret odor. Descenting surgery does not remove all this odor. Purchasing descented ferrets and bathing them weekly in baby shampoo and then applying a cream rinse minimizes this odor.

4.At last reading, ferrets were still illegal pets in California and Hawaii. Those laws need to be changed.

Some might consider ferrets hyperactive – if they are sitting still they are probably asleep.

5.Ferrets tend to hoard food and toys, which I suppose, could be considered an annoyance. With regular cleaning of their cages pockets of old food should not be a problem.

6.Ferrets love to get into tight spots and are often difficult to extricate. So it is necessary to “ferret proof” your house.
